WINES IN HARMONY WITH NATURE
Weingut Johanninger
WEINGUT JOHANNINGER was founded in the year 1994 by the Haas and Schufried families. The establishment had been preceded by a longtime friendship between Markus Haas and Dieter Schufried. Since then, they have united their own cultures for wine and indulgence and philosophy of life.
Rheinhessen and Nahe
The soils of the vineyards in Rheinhessen consist mainly of terrace gravel, which originated from the shore areas of the prehistoric sea. There, on about ten hectares, they produce mainly classic Riesling, Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau, which are grape varieties typical of Rhine-Hesse. On the slope itself, which opens up to the south, they grow Sauvignon Blanc and the red varieties Pinot Noir and St. Laurent, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Johanninger also cultivates about ten hectares of vineyards on the lower Nahe. Limestone-rich clay marl soils, which are found here, are perfectly suited for the cultivation of multifaceted Burgundies such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc as well as Pinot Noir and Pinot Madeleine (Frühburgunder). Expressive Chardonnay and fruity Scheurebe round off the range of grape varieties. The Estate is particularly proud of their 50-year-old vineyards, which produce expressive Burgundy wines.
SPARKLING WINE AND BRANDIES
On the Johanninger estate there is also a small factory for sparkling wines with long yeast storage, which are produced in bottle fermentation, and their distillery for high-quality brandies.
JOHANNINGER Riesling Stein 2020
Light straw color. Clarity that tastes of apricot, Amalfi lemon, lime zest, mango and also a bit of the salt of the earth. A racy Riesling that goes deep into the pulp of the fruit. This Riesling is light as a feather. The fruit is energetic and juicy. The acidity is ripe and zesty and the minerality perfect. Delightfully long finish – one glass is never enough!
Wine from Weingut Johanninger
In harmony with nature
Weingut Johanninger is eco-certified, and all wines are also produced vegan. They do not use chemicals; only organic compost to improve the soil. Appropriate measures in the vineyards help to keep the grapes healthy. The fully ripe grapes are processed with special care during and after harvest. In the consistently cool vaulted cellars, the wines are vinified with the utmost care, almost exclusively dry, and bottled only after a long period of maturation.
Enjoyment is Johanninger’s greatest motivation – they live wine!
